The ensemble Blutwurst was founded in Florence in 2011 by musicians involved in radical improvisation and experimental music.
The founding members are Marco Baldini (trumpet), Edoardo Ricci (bass clarinet, saxophone) and Daniela Fantechi (piano, accordion).
The ensemble grew up since 2012 with Michele Lanzini (cello), Cristina Abati (viola), Luca Giorgi (electronics, percussions), Alessandro Ricciardelli (theremin), Maurizio Costantini (double-bass) and Luisa Santacesaria (piano, harmonium).
At the first stage Blutwurst focused on improvisation and on the study and implementation of open and graphic scores by composers such as John Cage (Four6, Variations II), Earle Brown (Folio, Four Sistems), Christian Wolff (Edges, Exercise 1-2), Morton Feldman (Duration 2), Cornelius Cardew (Treatise, Paragraph 7), Alvin Lucier (Music for Piano with Slow Sweep Pure Wave Oscillators) and La Monte Young (Composition 1960 # 7, 566 for Henry Flynt).
Moreover the ensemble did some sonorizations of silent and art movies including Vampyr by Carl Theodor Dreyer, In the Shadow of the Sun by Derek Jarman and excerpts from Satantango by Bela Tarr.
In 2013 the ensemble began to work on its own compositions with the project Yoğurt, entirely dedicated to the electro-acoustic exploration of unisons and drones.
The first performances of Yoğurt was hosted by Frau Frisör Fosca on 14th November, 2013 and by the contemporary dance collective Kinkaleri at SpazioK in Prato (Wurst K. Night, 14th May 2014). 29th September 2015 the definitive version of the project Yoğurt was performed in the frame of the Tempo Reale Festival in Florence.
Since September 2015 Blutwurst is part of the Residence Program IN_Tempo Reale.
In 2015 Blutwurst also realized the soundscape for the essay movie Negoziating Amnesia by the London-based artist Alessandra Ferrini, in partnership with Festival dei Popoli and Murate-Centro per l’Arte Contemporanea.
